Value of University Experience

Dedicated to all my lecturers who are truly passionate about knowledge transfer

Value starts with a goal #

University is either about a single goal or multiple goals. #

The most common reason to attend university is to graduate with a good degree in order to get a good job. I’ve used the word “good” twice in a sentence, that’s not good at all. It is a single goal.

Looking back in 2012 when I graduated from university, I sorted out what were my goals (1) before I joined university (2) during university (3) and right after I completed my degree.

At each stage, my goal had been different. In fact, I had multiple goals.

Skipping the goal (1) as its the most obvious guess. Moving on. During university, I had the most not-so-unique goal of “to just graduate” and to find a job as soon as possible. Something I achieved.

Yet, goal (3) is obviously a step above or, perhaps below. I graduated and I had a job. Yet, I realized that I had perhaps not done enough and lack the ambitious drive of “not just graduating” but to “graduate beyond and above” the rest. A reversed goal lingering on my mind and I believed it was a good thing. Here is why,

  1. I feel the urge to head back to university, formally, again.
  2. I deserve the right to serve society, as a student, again.

Seeking to achieve goal (3) is about creating value in education and through education. Instead of just graduating, I will seek to enhance the experience of being funded as an academic. Rather than going back to university for the sake of getting another degree, I will invite people to understand how amazing their limited time being a student is a game changer. More than just being a student running after top grades or extra curricular activities, I will push the limit of academic research to meet reality. Eventually, I might become a thought-leader in my field(s).

Thus, goal (3) will become the new goal (1) or simply, The Goal which will be aligned with, not only my career goal, but also my purpose in life.

And what about you?

In the above short reflection, I never mentioned about all the cool stuffs which I’ve been doing.

Three of them were,

Also, I don’t care about writing cool stuffs, or none of my writings are meant to light up your views on my life path.

I will be writing more and more about life strategy (connected to purpose in life) in the future.
